High-tech Nuclear Medicine

The department of Nuclear Medicine articulates the idea of modern screening equipment with the positron emission tomography-computed tomography known as PET-CT, which is an advanced nuclear imaging technique. The hospital possesses this latest Hi-resolution PET-CT which is the third facility in Punjab and fifth in Pakistan respectively. The scanner has a 64 slice CT scan with it, which makes it a better option for faster acquisition of good quality images.

Positron Emission Tomography or PET scan is a diagnostic test that detects radiation by the accumulation and non-accumulation of radiotracers (injected intravenously before the scan) into the body to analyze the functioning of the body organs and tissues. It is used commonly for the diagnosis and monitoring of cancer (oncology) patients and in the diagnosis of several other conditions.

The hospital is also conducting CT scans, which is known as computerized tomography. It produces a series of X-rays that give detailed account of cross-sectional pictures of the body, from different angles. A Pet-CT scan combines the information relayed by both the scans. This helps in detecting the structural changes in the body tissue and cellular level. PKLI&RC is also equipped with a SPECT Scan (Gamma Camera) which gives accurate account of 3D body images.
